New fire safety guidance for high-rise buildings

In December 2019 the Government published new fire safety guidance on how to prevent fires and reduce the risks from fires in high-rise domestic buildings. The guidance is for existing multi-storey high-rise blocks and tenement buildings with a storey in excess of 18m above the ground (generally more than six floors) but no storey above 60m (generally more than 20 floors – specialist advice should be sought for buildings above this height).

The guidance applies to high-rise domestic buildings of all tenures – owner-occupied, social housing and the private rented sector.

The guidance can be found here.

Guidance has also been published for residents in high-rise buildings. This can be read here.
