Scottish Association of Landlords terms and conditions online purchase of membership, events and courses and website usage
Online purchase of membership, events and courses
The following terms apply to your use of Scottish Association of Landlords’ services. These are additional to and supplement our general website terms and conditions which also apply.
If you have any questions concerning the service, please contact us.
- Landlord membership costs £95 per year and is suitable for landlords plus their spouse or partner resident at the same home address where only the named landlord or spouse/partner will use the SAL member services (free helpline, local and national events, discount landlord insurance, specialist training etc.). One fee covers the landlord and spouse or partner resident at the same home address. Landlord membership is for landlords who let out properties they own. If you let properties which belong to others, Council of Letting Agents (CLA) membership is required.
- Council of Letting Agents membership costs £325 per annum and is suitable for companies or organisations where more than one staff member will use the SAL member services. One fee covers up to 6 member agent staff, all based in one premises. Multiple memberships can be held for any premises where more than 6 members of staff require to use SAL members services. Multiple branch membership packages are also available for companies with more than one office in Scotland. Any entity which requires to register as a letting agent in Scotland and wishes to be a member of SAL requires Council of Letting Agents membership.
- Business membership costs £325 per annum and is suitable for professional landlords where more than one staff member will use the SAL member services or where the company is the property owner and the member services will be used by the company staff.
- Events and training courses cost in the range of £0 – £200 per attendee. Prices may be different for members and non-members. Prices are shown in landlord event listings.
We will start to process your order on receipt.
Included in membership package:
Access to online downloads of forms and factsheets, access to member helpline on a call back basis, subscription to member magazine, regular enews updates.
The standard membership period is 12 months from date of joining.
When you join Scottish Association of Landlords online you have a short ‘cooling off period’ in which you can cancel your membership. The opportunity to cancel finishes after 14 days or directly after accessing membership benefits online – whichever occurs soonest.

The Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL) is committed to providing high-quality customer services.
We value complaints and use information from them to help us improve our services.
If something goes wrong or you are dissatisfied with our services, please tell us.
What is a complaint?
We regard a complaint as any expression of dissatisfaction about our action or lack of action, or about the standard of service provided by us or on our behalf.
What can I complain about?
You can complain about things like:
• delays in responding to your enquiries and requests
• failure to provide a service
• our standard of service
• treatment by or attitude of a member of staff
How do I complain?
You can complain by phone, in writing or by email.
When complaining, tell us:
• your full name and address
• as much as you can about the complaint
• what has gone wrong
• how you want us to resolve the matter.
What happens when I have complained?
We will always tell you who is dealing with your complaint. Our complaints procedure has two stages:
Stage 1 – frontline resolution
We aim to resolve complaints quickly and close to where we provided the service. This could mean an on-the-spot apology and explanation if something has clearly gone wrong, and immediate action to resolve the problem.
We will give you our decision at stage 1 in five working days or less, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
If we can’t resolve your complaint at this stage, we will explain why. If you are still dissatisfied you can ask for your complaint to be investigated further through stage 2. You may choose to do this immediately or some time after you get our initial response. We can help you with making this request.
Stage 2 – investigation
Stage 2 deals with complaints that have not been resolved at stage 1 and those that are complex and require detailed investigation.
When using stage 2 we will:
• acknowledge receipt of your complaint within three working days
• where appropriate, discuss your complaint with you to understand why you remain dissatisfied and what outcome you are looking for
• give you a full response to the complaint as soon as possible and within 20 working days.
If our investigation will take longer than 20 working days, we will tell you. We will agree revised time limits with you and keep you updated on progress.
