Government “reforms” risk worsening the housing crisis
We have been representing member views and working with other organisations to ensure politicians are made aware of the risks within the Coronavirus (Recovery and Reform) (Scotland) Bill which is in front of the Scottish Parliament just now. This bill when enacted will make the current temporary situation of all eviction grounds being discretionary, permanent. i.e. there will be no mandatory grounds at all for eviction.
SAL chief executive John Blackwood says “Government policy is forcing landlords to sell up causing a housing crisis for renters. Patrick Harvie (Minister for Tenants’ Rights) says he’s heard that said before and landlords didn’t sell up.
REALITY CHECK: it is happening NOW! We’re lobbying all MSPs sharing landlords’ concerns. Share yours by writing to your MSP using this link.”
