Too little, too late: More help needed for PRS

SAL members will be aware of our ongoing major campaign against the unfair and discriminatory rent increase freeze and ban on evictions in Scottish private lets, which were part of last year’s Cost of Living Act.

Today SAL has secured a minor concession but more help is still needed for the private rented sector (PRS). The Scottish Government has just announced a relaxation of the current PRS rent freeze restrictions which will take effect from 1 April 2023.

From that date, increases of up to 3% will be permitted, with up to 6% where the landlord can show their property costs have increased.

However, with landlords suffering from the same cost-of-living crisis as the general population, this goes nowhere near addressing our concerns and all options remain on the table including legal action.

Watch this space.
