Does your gas engineer know about the changes?

A few members have reported to SAL that some gas engineers are not aware of the flexibility introduced earlier this year.

Following campaigning work by SAL and our England/Wales partners the RLA, we were pleased in Spring 2018 to have announced a good result. From 6 April 2018 a change in gas safety regulations introduced a degree of flexibility to the timing of landlords’ annual gas safety checks. This MOT-style change means that landlords can carry out the annual gas safety check in the two months before the due date and retain the existing expiry date. For example, if the current certificate expires on 25 November 2018, a new certificate issued on/after 26 September 2018 will be valid for up to 14 months, expiring on 25 November 2019. This avoids landlords waiting until the last minute and not gaining access, or having to shorten the annual check cycle to comply with the law.
