Making Tax Digital – November quarterly deadline

If you’ve signed up to Making Tax Digital for Income Tax in April 2026, you should now be creating digital records in preparation for sending HMRC your second quarterly update on November 7 2026.

Quarterly updates are summaries of your business income and expenses. You send them to HMRC every 3 months using compatible MTD software of your choice.

You’ll need to send a quarterly update for each income source, including self‑employment and property income.

After sending an update, you’ll be able to see an estimate of your tax bill for your self-employment and property income in your software or in your HMRC online services account.

Who needs to send quarterly updates

From April 2026, sole traders and landlords with turnover above £50,000 must send quarterly updates to HMRC using recognised software. If you’re already signed up to MTD with turnover above £50,000, your next quarterly update is due November 7 2026.

From April 2027, sole traders and landlords with turnover above £30,000 must sign up for MTD and use recognised software to send quarterly updates to HMRC, extending to those above £20,000 from April 2028.

Just 16 days until Scottish Letting Day (4 Nov). Don’t miss our flagship event.
