Letting agent registration update

Since the introduction of letting agent registration in 2018, the Scottish Government has received 1038 applications to join the letting agent register. 939 of these have been approved so far, and 43 have been withdrawn by the agent. There have been 14 refusals so far which are listed online here. The government continues to get applications from new businesses and there are currently 42 outstanding applications at various stages of the assessment process.

CLA members are reminded that their registration is valid for three years and therefore those whose registrations were approved in 2018 will be due to renew next year. At the point of renewal agents need to ensure that all those who are subject to the training requirement have undertaken at least 20 hours of letting agency work training over the last 3 years. This must include 15 hours of formal verifiable training and 5 hours of informal self-certified training. The 5 hours of informal training can include reading SAL’s Landlord Focus magazine and enews updates. Landlord Accreditation Scotland offer a number of training courses which can be counted towards the 15 hours. These are being operated as webinars at present due to the coronavirus crisis. Further details on courses can be found here.

Bespoke training packages are also available which allow agents to tailor training to the specific number of hours required and topics that are relevant to their overall training needs.  Contact Lynne Macdonald, LAS training and events coordinator for information.
