Renters’ Rights Act

The SAL advice team has received a number of enquiries from landlords about the Renters Rights Act. This is legislation primarily affecting landlords of properties in England, and most of the provisions do not apply in Scotland. While landlords of properties in England are required to issue an information sheet to their tenants with guidance on the new legislation, landlords of properties in Scotland do not need to issue this information sheet to their tenants.

The only part of the Renters Rights Act which applies in Scotland, makes changes to discrimination rules which can be read about here. Information on this was previously sent to SAL members in our enews dated 12 March 2026.
