Letting agents: events, conference and CPD

Lots of people have been asking about our plans for conferences this year. The last two years have been exceptionally busy for letting agents, with a lot of time out of their businesses for training, plus the extra expenses of registration, qualification and so on.

Taking our member feedback on board, we will be holding one large conference this year in November rather than the smaller agent conference in May. Many have told us they would prefer to attend one larger event than two smaller ones, with time and budgets tight. Therefore National Landlord Day on 12 November will be relaunched in 2019 with a dedicated programme of letting agent breakouts, following a successful trial at the 2018 conference.

We are aware that many are investing this year in more staff members taking part in the LETWELL programme, and that those already qualified are spending time on CPD training too. This is available from Landlord Accreditation Scotland at a discounted rate for SAL Council of Letting Agents members. The first course available is “Effective Communication” and more topics will be coming on line soon.

The majority of our SAL local branch meetings this year (free of charge for CLA members to attend) will have a separate letting agent session chaired by CLA director Mike Campbell. This was offered on a trial basis last year and received great feedback from agent members.

Attending a branch meeting can be claimed as two hours of formal CPD towards the letting agent code of practice requirements. Did you know that the time spent reading our Landlord Focus magazine also counts as informal CPD and being a delegate at National Landlord Day will be another five hours of formal CPD?

If we can assist you with any information about letting agent regulation, the letting agent code of practice, registration and ongoing training please let us know and we will be delighted to call you.

Please let us know your views about the type of events you would be interested in attending in future and any content you would find useful and we hope to see you at events and training this spring.
